ASTHO Attends White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health

September 28, 2022

ARLINGTON, VA—Today, the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) CEO Michael Fraser attended the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health, a unique convening of advocates, lawmakers, and experts to end hunger, improve nutrition and physical activity, and reduce disparities. ASTHO is committed to promoting healthier eating policies and reducing disparities.

“This conference presents an opportunity to reassess where we are and devise a plan for combatting America’s challenges with hunger and food security,” says ASTHO CEO Michael Fraser, PhD. “With the pandemic increasing food insecurity across the board and exacerbating longstanding disparities, I am certain that the conference will provide new and actionable ideas and solutions concerning how to face these challenges in a way that prioritizes and advances health equity.

We look forward to working with Congress and the Administration to end hunger by ensuring that the innovative solutions resulting from this conference are effectively and efficiently implemented.”

The White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health is the first of its kind in over 50 years. Millions of Americans are afflicted with food insecurity and diet-related diseases—including heart disease, obesity, and type 2 diabetes—which are some of the leading causes of death and disability in the United States.
